An interview with magician Nathan Burton
When John Sebastian–of The Lovin’ Spoonful’s fame–wrote Do You Believe in Magic in 1965, Sebastian must have had an inkling, somehow, about the future of Las Vegas magician Nathan Burton. Having the opportunity to sit down and talk with Nathan readily brings to mind Sebastian’s lyric:
And it’s magic, if the music is groovy it makes you feel happy like an old-time movie. I’ll tell you about the magic and it’ll free your soul . . . but it’s like tryin’ to tell a stranger ’bout rock and roll.
You have to meet Nathan Burton in order to understand what a nice, and genuinely caring, individual he is. Sitting down to interview him is a pleasure. He enjoys his work. That point is illustrated, very clearly, during his show. In speaking with him, however, one comes to see the person behind the persona – and that is where Burton shines.
